Cold Call Script Template (Built for Reps Who Research First)

A good cold call script has five beats: a permission-based opener, a reason specific to the person, a one-sentence bridge to your product, a discovery question, and a close that sells the meeting. The script below works for any list — the opener variations show what happens when you fill the “specific reason” slot with real profile research.

The script

  1. 1

    Opener

Hi {FirstName}, this is {YourName} from {Company}. I know I'm interrupting — can I take 30 seconds to tell you why I called you specifically, and you can tell me if it makes sense to keep talking?

Asking permission up front disarms the brush-off and gives the prospect control, which paradoxically keeps them on the line.

  2. 2

    The specific reason

I saw {specific detail from their profile — a role change, a project, a post}. That usually means {relevant implication}. Is that on your plate right now?

This is where pre call planning pays off. One specific detail proves the call is not random and earns the next minute.

  3. 3

    The bridge

The reason I called: we help {their role/company type} with {outcome}. Given what you just said, it sounded worth a conversation.

Connect their world to your outcome in one sentence. Two is too many.

  4. 4

    One discovery question

How are you handling {problem area} today?

Questions keep the call a conversation. Pitching turns it back into an interruption.

  5. 5

    The close

It sounds like this might be worth a proper conversation. Would you be open to 20 minutes next week where I can show you how {similar company} handled it?

Sell the meeting, not the product. The cold call's job is a calendar invite.

Personalized opener variations

These are the kinds of specific openers Call Me Ready drafts from a prospect's LinkedIn profile. Swap any of them into step 2 in place of a generic reason:

  • I saw you just stepped into the head-of-sales role three months ago — new leaders usually have a short window to change tooling. Is that fair?
  • Your team has posted three SDR roles this month, which usually means pipeline targets went up. How is the team keeping up?
  • I noticed you came up through support before moving into ops — that path usually makes people picky about process. Is that true for you?
  • You moved from a 50-person company to a 5,000-person one last year. Has the way you evaluate vendors changed with the scale?

Open a prospect's profile, click Prep for Meeting, and the profile summary includes a suggested opener plus 4-5 talking points to choose from.

Cold call script FAQ

Do cold call scripts actually work?
Scripts work as scaffolding, not as lines to read. The structure — opener, specific reason, bridge, question, close — keeps you on track; the specific detail about the prospect is what makes it land. A generic script read verbatim is worse than no script.
How do I personalize a cold call script for every prospect?
Fill the “specific reason” slot from the prospect's LinkedIn profile. Call Me Ready generates a profile summary with talking points and a suggested opener in one click, so personalization takes about 60 seconds per prospect.
How long should a cold call opener be?
Under fifteen seconds. Who you are, why them specifically, and a question. Anything longer gets cut off; anything shorter has not earned the next sentence.
What should I do when a prospect says “just send me an email”?
Agree, then ask one question first: “Happy to — so I send the right thing, can I ask how you are handling X today?” You either get a real answer (and a real conversation) or a clean exit with useful context for the follow-up.
